Bali is a familiar tourist destination. Beyond its sun-kissed sands, Bali is struggling with waste challenges as its annual 16 million tourists generate 3.5 times more waste per day than its residents, accounting for 13% of Bali’s total waste, and the island generates 1.6 million tons of waste each year, including 330,000 tons of plastic. Oceans connect us all. Located in Bali, Livingseas Asia – Livingseas Foundation is founded by a Singaporean-Leon Boey-who studied in ACJC and NUS and eventually started his diving academy business and has been based in Bali, with his life’s purpose to replant corals, providing livelihoods to its Padangbai villagers (30+ new jobs created over 4 years to date), and also educating tourists first-hand about coral conservation as they dive and replant corals, degraded by human activities

A Balinese by birth, Yioly Purnamasari lived and worked in Singapore, before pursuing her Masters in Philosophy in Cambridge, and is now co-founder of her startup –  Sirsak -whose team is tracing and recovering packaging waste at scale.

On Day 2 of our NSEW2050 Summit – 18th of February, join us in welcoming Grace Chiang Min, sustainability consultant at Steward Red queen, as she moderates an insightful panel discussion with Leon and Violy.

Let’s hear from them, on why conservation travels matter.
