Pulau Ubin Cleanup

After having been to Pulau Ubin a couple of times for cycling, it didn’t take long to realize just how much rubbish is scattered everywhere, even in places you wouldn’t expect, like in the tropical rain forests. It is disappointingly rampant. The main culprits include plastic bottles and aluminium cans. To my dismay, not much has changed in this regard since my initial visit in 2009.

In response to the above, I decided to take it upon myself to set up a volunteer base and execute organized rubbish collection events. These events would typically last for 2 to 2.5 hours and take place on the weekend every 4-6 weeks. The volunteers are responsible for bringing along their own garbage bags and other rubbish collecting utensils. I found that one of the biggest challenges on these events were the hungry mosquitoes and their blatant disregard toward our insect repellents. So I strongly encourage you to wear a long sleeved top and pants/trousers to ensure you don’t fall prey to these blood sucking insects! Further details will follow on each event’s page.

If you too share the same zeal when it comes having a litter-free Pulau Ubin, I welcome you to join us! It’s a great way to network and to find like-minded individuals.

Look forward to seeing you there!
