In conjunction with the Singapore Design Week, “Coexistence by Design is a collaboration between the Jane Goodall Institute (Singapore) and local design agency, Creativeans, as we explore and look at ways in which design has played a critical part in allowing metropolitan Singapore to coexist with nature!
Join us on 5th October at the National Library for a fireside chat that will feature an eclectic panel of experts who will discuss and share their expert opinions as to how Singapore can foster even greater coexistence between humans, wildlife and our ecosystems
Amongst the distinguished panellists is Entomology Researcher, Mr Nathan Laurenz
Hailing from the small agricultural town of Breckenridge, Michigan, Nathan grew up with and developed a passion for insects In his research of insects, Nathan learnt that insects can be a viable food option, providing many benefits and advantages that traditional sources of protein cannot, such as being equally nutritious while being easier and faster to farm, and also creating less footprint on the environment
This discovery set the trajectory for Nathan, as he looks to play his part towards creating more sustainable food sources, making the world a better place for both humans and our environment into his life work.
The question, however, remains – What would it take to convince you, the consumer, to choose cricket over chicken rice for lunch?
With Singapore, which aims to produce 30% of its food by 2030, having recently approved 16 species of insects as food, this looks set to be a hot-button topic for discussion
Coexistence does not happen by chance; it happens by design. Get inspired by Nathan and our other speakers as we find out more about how we can balance urban growth with environmental stewardship on 5th October.
